Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced plans to introduce a "gold card" US visa priced at $5 million each, positioning it as a high-value alternative to the traditional green card. The program, he stated, is intended to attract job creators and help reduce the national deficit.

"We're going to be selling a gold card. You have a green card, this is a gold card," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. The new visa would offer a pathway to US citizenship for those willing to invest in the country.

Trump estimated that the US could sell up to a million of these visas, adding that sales would begin in about two weeks. While all applicants would undergo careful vetting, he did not rule out eligibility for wealthy Russian oligarchs, some of whom have faced Western sanctions since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

"I know some Russian oligarchs that are very nice people," Trump remarked. "I think they can afford $5 million."

The initiative, backed by US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, is expected to generate significant revenue. Trump even suggested branding the new visa under his own name, saying, "Somebody said, 'Can we call it the Trump gold card?' I said, 'If it helps, use the name Trump.'"
